Do you need help kick-starting your metabolism? Speed up your weight loss by helping your liver to remove toxins and produce fat-burning hormones. All six fat-burning hormones do their work through the liver, and if your metabolism is sluggish, your liver may be damaged which makes it more difficult to produce all six of these hormones. In addition, the chemicals in our foods, growth hormones in meats and dairy, alcohol, caffeine, refined sugars, refined carbohydrates, past infections, cigarettes, and pollutants in our water supply also contribute to a toxic liver. After you lose the weight what do you eat so the weight doesn’t come back? Dr. Rettner incorporates knowledge of the following nutritional systems to determine your genetically ideal diet, so the weight you have lost will stay off:

• Metabolic Typing — Developed by Dr. Richard Power, a licensed clinical nutritionist who studied endocrinology at the National Institute of Health. Metabolic typing is an endocrine typing system for clinical analysis in nutrition. Blood type, body shape, metabolism, personality traits and symptoms are all thoroughly examined in order to determine your genetically ideal diet. For example: Are you better off as vegetarian or a meat eater? If you’re a meat eater is it better for you to focus on eating red meat and chicken or fish? Are you better off eating alkaline or acid fruits and vegetables? Dr. Power’s research combines an anthropological approach to diet based on extensive multicultural studies.

• Blood Sugar Diet — Based on Nutrition and Your Mind by George Watson, Dr. Rettner has learned that people who tend toward low blood sugar need a diet of high protein and fat, and to avoid sweets, caffeine, alcohol, and refined carbohydrates.

• Ayurvedic Diet — Dating back to India more than 5,000 years ago, Ayurveda comes from two Sanskrit words, ayus, or “life," and Veda, meaning “knowledge.” Therefore, Ayurveda is usually translated as “the knowledge of life and longevity.” In Ayurveda there are three psychobiological principles or energies. They are present in every cell, tissue and organ. When these energies are in balance, they create health. When out of balance, they are the cause of disease. Dr. Rettner will determine your Ayurvedic body type and which foods are best for your type to create health, energy and weight loss.

• Chinese Dietary Therapy — The five element system, developed by ancient Chinese sages, serves as a way of understanding traditional Chinese medicine. There is a relationship between the five elements, the body’s vital organs and the foods needed to keep those organs healthy. By checking the pulse, the tongue and various symptom complexes we will determine which organs are weak and which foods are needed to strengthen them.
